LOS ANGELES, Wednesday, April 10, 2013 — Stephen Hawkins, the English cosmologist who is considered the greatest theoretical physicist since  Einstein, told employees at Cedar-Sinai Medical Center that he believes mankind will not survive unless man is able to  vacate Planet Earth within 1,000 years and move elsewhere. He urged for man to continue his exploration of space.

Hawkins: Man has 1000 years left.

Hawkins, who suffers from Lou Gehrig’s disease and is the longest known survivor with it, visited the center after being invited to see the efforts being made in stem-cell research, directed toward a cure of the disease. Most people who suffer with the affliction live only about 10 years. Scientists don’t know why Hawkins has lived 50 years with it. Hawkins is 70.

Hawkins is known for his research into the existence of black holes, which are believed to exist at the center of galaxies, and are so dense and subject to such tremendous gravitational forces that light cannot even escape them, and they are the force that hold galaxies in place as they spin.
Hawkins wrote a book, “A History of Time,” in which he explained the workings of the universe, and said that the cosmos had a beginning and began as a dot, or singularity, and then exploded to create what we see as the stars and galaxies. The book sold 10 million copies worldwide.

When he was first diagnosed with the disease, he became extremely depressed and did not want to continue his studies, but he forged ahead anyway, overcoming his handicap with a brilliant intellect that eventually solved mathematically some of the mysteries of the universe.
He told Sinai employees,

“However difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do and succeed at.”

His disease has destroyed his muscles and ability to function physically, but he communicates through the use of a computer.

On February 2, Mitch McConnell, the Republican leader in the US Senate, opened up his 2014 reelection campaign headquarters in Louisville, Kentucky, and in front of several dozen supporters vowed to "point out" the weaknesses of any opponent fielded by the Democrats. "They want to fight? We're ready," he declared. McConnell was serious: Later that day, he was huddling with aides in a private meeting to discuss how to attack his possible Democratic foes, including actor/activist Ashley Judd, who was then contemplating challenging the minority leader. During this strategy session—a recording of which was obtained by Mother Jones—McConnell and his aides considered assaulting Judd for her past struggles with depression and for her religious views.

Last month, Judd announced she wouldn't challenge McConnell, whose reelection campaign could become one of the most watched races of the 2014 cycle (if a serious Democratic opponent emerges). But at the February 2 meeting, McConnell and his team were fixated on Judd. McConnell told his aides that at the early stage of the campaign they had to clobber any potential challenger:

I assume most of you have played the, the game Whac-A-Mole?” (Laughter.) This is the Whac-A-Mole period of the campaign…when anybody sticks their head up, do them out.

Roger Ebert's Funeral To Be Picketed By Westboro Baptist Church ....

Members of Westboro slammed the late movie critic as "a fag enabler," noting that his tweets "mock[ed] the faithful servants of God"? "Love one another as I have loved you..."? & "YOU WITHOUT SIN MAY CAST THE 1ST STONE..."?

 

Roger Ebert's Chicago funeral will reportedly be picketed by members of the Westboro Baptist Church.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, members of Westboro slammed the late movie critic as "a fag enabler," noting that his tweets "mock[ed] the faithful servants of God" that make up the congregation of the Kansas-based church, which is known for its extremely anti-gay views, in a news release.

The news release continues:

"Now the famed critic is in a new jurisdiction, where he can see the blessings poured out on God's humble servants in heaven, from his seat of eternal torment & sorrow in Hell! It's too late for the fool Roger Ebert! WBC will continue to bind those who still live in Doomed america to God's eternal laws & Word, so you, like Roger, are without excuse!"

The Pulitzer Prize-winning Ebert died April 4 at the age of 70. He was first diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2002, and cancerous growths were found on his salivary glands a year later, forcing him to undergo surgeries that left him without the ability to speak.

Ebert's funeral is set to take place April 8 at the Holy Name Cathedral in Chicago.

Westboro members previously protested at the funerals of Steve Jobs, Michael Jackson and Matthew Shepard. Plans to picket the New Jersey funeral of Whitney Houston were announced, but no one from the church ever showed up.
